The Search for Wondla by Tony Diterlizzi
I finished this book last weekend, and I really liked it. It was a fast-paced read, it is kind of a break from contemporary books. Because it is a middle grade fantasy/sci-fi book and series, it is filled with adventure, values of friendship and family, and self discovery.
The book it's about a girl named Eva Nove, 12 years old, she lives with her robot mother in a underground sanctuary. Eva was trained by her mother to survive on the earth surface. Then, one day their sanctuary was attacked, Eva scaped and had to embark in a adventure to find other humans and her Wondla.
A thing that fascinated me in this book was the illustration in the beginning of each chapter, the book was illustrated by the author himself. Illustrations in books for me are always a bonus, not just because it's beautiful to look at, but because it helps a lot on the process of imaginating the characters and scenes.
